Privacy Policy

SoCal Bluewater ("we") runs this website and a fishing app for Southern California. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

This website

• No accounts, cookies, analytics, ads or third-party trackers. Pages and fonts are served from our own host.
• Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. They are kept for a short time and not used to identify you.
• If you email us, we use your address only to reply, or to tell you when the app launches if you asked us to.
• Links to other sites (such as NOAA or CDFW) are covered by those sites' own policies.

The app: what we collect

• Your logs: catches (including trips with no fish), sightings, water temperatures and saved spots, with the position and time you log them, and settings such as your home port and boat size.
• Location: only while the app is open, to show you on the map, add a position to logs you save and offer quick reports when you're offshore. Never in the background.
• Profile: an optional display name and photo. Location data is removed from photos when you upload them.
• Account: a random device identifier, and if you use Sign in with Apple, Apple's private identifier for you. We don't ask for your name or email to use the app.
• Purchases: whether you have Pro, from the App Store or Google Play through our subscription provider. We never see your payment card.
• Notifications: a push token, if you turn alerts on.

How it's used and who sees it

• Exact positions are never made public. Logs you share with the community are shown only as a general area and only after a delay. Logs you share with a crew are visible to that crew's members. Private logs are visible only to you.
• Leaderboards show your display name and activity counts, never places. You can post anonymously.
• We use your information to run the app's features and to improve the service, including with anonymised, aggregated data.
• Service providers process data for us under contract: our hosting provider, our subscription provider (RevenueCat), push notification delivery (Expo), and Apple and Google for sign-in and purchases.
• We may disclose information if required by law.

Your choices

• Delete your account any time in the app (Settings, then Delete account), or without the app. Your logs, spots, photo and sign-in are deleted.
• You can turn off location, photos and notifications in your phone's settings. The app still works without them.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access keys are stored securely on your phone and on our servers. No system is perfect, but we work to keep your information safe.

Children

The app and this website are not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

California residents

You have the right to know what personal information we hold about you and to ask us to delete it. Email [email protected]. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we won't treat you differently for using these rights.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app for important changes.
